Spivakovsky closely guarded the performance secrets of Franz Liszt and Anton Rubinstein but was always very generous in helping those he considered were sincere artists. He mentored younger pianists including William Kapell, Julius Katchen and Shura Cherkassky and guided many others such as Simon Barere, Joseph Seiger and Paul Badura-Skoda.
